Fleet Street old and new assembled in force to give Paul Eccleston and Graham Tibbetts a rousing send-off, under the watchful eye of a camera-wielding Kelly Scott.
Without Sappers - David Sapsted - it is doubtful whether the party would have happened. He wasn't leaving - not this time, anyway - but he was called upon to write spoof front pages, drum up anecdotes about at least one of the departing heroes and deliver a speech....
"Guests have come from far and near to marvel at your produce." Eccie and Tibbs, stretching a point, being the produce. Syd Young (right), but not David Wooding, will remember that as a line used by Jeremy Thorpe, surrounded by hordes of reporters, snappers and camera crews, when he spoke at a village fete in north Devon the day after being charged with conspiracy to murder Norman Scott (he was eventually cleared)...
Matt (below, left, with George Jones) had as usual played a blinder, producing pocket cartoons for the spoof pages of both colleagues. ..
Guy Rais has never forgotten how to tap every other reporter on the same assignment for a strong clue as to their intros (for the uninitiated, or civilians as the late Brian Silk used to call them, that means introductory paragraphs).....
And Nicole Martin and Sally Pook would have made John Crowley's night had they not been so far beneath him...
Will Bennett and Hugh Davies had no intention of lowering the average age of those present by the simple act of leaving early...
Patsy Dryden and Paul Hill (plus Theresa and Mike, not pictured) flew the flag for the foreign desk, as previously constituted....
And Sean O'Neill and Paul Harris discussed the detail of fine writing....
Finally, for now, another appearance for Sally, with everyone's favourite supersub Keith Hoggins and Tracey Jennings...
Old and newly assembled in force to give Paul Eccleston and Graham Tibbetts a rousing send-off party's photo clicks are very nice and photo assembled manner is awesome! I really enjoyed!
